Job Summary

Hawkeye Community College is seeking a Nursing Instructor / Academic Instruction and Accreditation Coordinator to join our Nursing Faculty team. Our full-time, twelve-month faculty position, will teach in the Nursing discipline while also being responsible for the compliance and accreditation aspect of our nursing programs. To accomplish this, you’ll engage in creative programmatic development that fosters innovative pedagogies and technologies including various instructional delivery methods. You will be part of the leadership team by providing instructional support as well as executing program compliance within the nursing department. This includes but is not limited to Iowa Board of Nursing compliance and NCLEX board preparation. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats.

We are interested in finding a knowledgeable, positive professional role model to inspire our students and lead a strong faculty team. The college provides a two-year faculty induction & mentoring program to support our newest faculty members. The public wants training opportunities and the industry needs trained professionals – it is a great time for our Nursing program to address both.

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains a teaching load along with release time to achieve load.

  • Prepares daily instructional plans and materials.

  • Supports, recruits and advises students.

  • Employs various instructional modalities, methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.

  • Formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses.

  • Collaborates with the Nursing Education chair to develop and implement a faculty onboarding program.

  • Collaborates with the Nursing Education Chair, Clinical Coordinator and faculty on program guidebooks and the nursing specific program handbook.

  • Assists faculty with developing instructional plans and materials.

  • Directs the assessment, revision, and development of curricula while enhancing the integration of simulation and test prep systems throughout the programs.

  • Ensures compliance with nursing education accreditation bodies and regulatory agencies requirements, including annual program reports, website and published materials, periodic program self-study efforts, and preparation for site visits.

  • Maintains positive relationships with faculty, students, all divisions of the college as well as the program’s Advisory Committee, prospective employers, and the community.

  • Participates in campus committees as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in nursing.

  • Two (2) years as a nursing educator.

  • Two (2) years of clinical practice proficiency.

  • Current unencumbered Iowa RN license or license-eligible in the State of Iowa.

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the areas of operations and management of an educational program including accreditation, personnel, and budgetary responsibilities.

  • Curriculum development, program evaluation, and student learning assessment experience.

  • Experience in the use of technology and alternative delivery formats, including computer-assisted delivery.

  • Must have the knowledge and ability to apply teaching skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skills and ideas.

  • Demonstrated ability to use motivational skills and engage students in the learning process from all backgrounds and educational experiences.

  • Must be adaptable to change and innovation.

  • Knowledge of certification requirements and standards for hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and methods for effective, innovative instruction.

  • Demonstrated track record of collaboration and transformational leadership skills.

  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public in a professional and personable manner.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, nursing education software such as ATI or NurseTim, etc. and video conferencing technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community college experience as an instructor or faculty lead.

  • Three (3) or more years as a nursing educator.

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of nursing accreditation.

  • Experience in reviewing and/or analyzing NCLEX data.

Working Conditions

Teaching assignments may include days, evenings, face-to-face, online, or hybrid instruction. Maintains a teaching load of not more than two program courses per semester along with release time to achieve credit load.

Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting, classroom or lab setting using technology and dental instruments. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.

Employment Status

Full-time twelve-month contractual position, with comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick leave; tuition reimbursement; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).

  • Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience based on the Hawkeye Professional Educators’ Association Master Agreement.

  • Faculty pay structure consists of 20 steps with Step 1 as $59,218 through Step 20 as $78,270.
